How & Where to Sell Used Books

If you have a full library and are looking to make room for new books, or extra cash (for new books) then start cleaning out the shelves and sell your used books!

Here is a guide to selling your used books:

  1. Check Your Book’s Value

You can use sites such as bookscouter.com to enter the ISBN number and get a quote for how much your used textbooks or books are worth. This of course will also depend on the condition of your book and how old it is. Once you have a rough idea of how much your books are worth, you can start selling.

Make sure your books are clean and in condition before you ship them away, this will only increase value!

2. Sell Online

If you do not want to sell in person, Amazon is a great option. Amazon’s trade-in program allows you trade in books (or devices) you bought previously from Amazon (Or Elsewhere!) for Amazon gift credit. First, you search for the books you want to sell, and you will have to answer these questions before you are ready to ship and receive your Amazon credit:

You can sell books online through many bookstores such as Powell’s in Portland, Oregon and they will price and ship your books for FREE!

3. Sell At a Local Bookstore

Many independent bookstores will buy back your used books. You can sell or trade them (I always end up trading- part of the fun!!)

Keep in mind that most online companies and bookstores will not take old library editions, stained, water or smoke damaged copies!

Check local bookstore websites to see if they have a buy-back program, or check out my Bookstore Blog Posts that outline whether or not specific bookstores buy, sell, and trade!!
